The company was established in December 1997 to provide a magnetic resonance imaging service to the Midland Region of the North Island of New Zealand.

The company is owned by private radiologists in Hamilton.

Midland MRI Ltd operates General Electric 3 Tesla and 1.5 Tesla MRI scanners.

There are two branches designed to service the needs of private and public patients:
